Chinese Laundry Garden Party: So Long, and Thanks For All The Fish.
Chinese Laundry’s epic Garden Parties have long been an institution on the Sydney Dance scene. As you can imagine, when it was announced a few weeks back that the 28th of January would be the last one, beat nuts and bass-heads all over the city scrambled to get tickets.
There are a few things that are a given at a Chinese Laundry Garden Party. The girls will be good-looking, the beats will be heavy and the drinks will be flowing well into the night.
This Garden Party was no exception. With a lineup that looked like a Bass head’s wet dream, we heard epic sets from the likes of Bass Nectar, Bare Noize, Asylum, Mix Hell, Karton and Hydraulix.
Without a doubt, Bass Nectar stole the day, with a set heavier than the cast of this year’s Biggest Loser. With his bizarre mash-ups and drum step flavour, he had the crowd whipped into a heaving (cozza) frenzy.
Another standout was Bare Noize, with their typically dubstep heavy set hitting all the right notes. It was all go from the beginning as the set kicked off with Noisia’s remix of Earthquake, all the way through to one of Bare Noize’s newer tracks, a dark and grimy remix of Off With Their Heads by Bella.
Local act Asylum deserve an honourable mention, as the skill and creativity of these boys really shone through in their set, both in their awesome choice of dubstep and the off-the-charts scratching.
From start to finish, the final Garden Party at Chinese Laundry was a complete success. With the sun shining and Sydney’s bass community out in full force, the Garden Party tradition certainly finished, appropriately, with a bang. Actually, make that a bwwwwaaaaaapppp.
