The Village Stage
Fractal Forest stage
At any large music festival it is impossible to catch everyone of your favorite acts because so many of them collide. Well as you can imagine this happened big time for me at this years at Shambhala. On the other hand you always end up running into acts that you've never heard of and they totally blow you away! I'm going to mention my Sham favorites, planned favorites and even my let downs.
I'm going to start with my absolute favorites
- He's an act that I had been told about and was talked up quite a bit well before I got to the festival. His beat boxing, vocals and bass-lines were created perfectly from his own vocal cords and sounded amazing on the gigantic PK sound system. Keep an eye out for DUB FX
- The next one was also very much part of my schedule to see. He's not so much know as a producer but mainly as an amazing live DJ. He surprised the crowd about every third with his ability to mix everything with anything and still make people want to dance. Keep an eye out for A-Skillz
- The next one was a complete random act that I just stumbled upon while walking towards the Rock Pitt stage. They were playing a really heavy Drum and Bass set so naturally I couldn't keep walking. These two guys were doing a double laptop turntable set whilst a Jamaican style MC sang and rapped over top. Amazing music, amazing DJing with a rad MC, they won me. Keep an eye out for Snareophobe
- Finally a set that just hit the spot for me. It's was 5 am on Sunday morning and my friends and I were sitting by the river watching the Living Room stage... not dancing, not chatting, just chilling out. This DJ played one of the best chilled multi-genre sets I've heard. Music so new that nobody would recognize any songs she played and she played them perfectly. Keep an eye out for
- Now for a set that did not do it for me. This DJ has been one of my favorites for more than 5 years and I have seen him play 3 times before seeing him at Shambhala. Every time I saw him he was amazing, except this time. He was playing on the notoriously bass heavy system know as PK and I think he took to much advantage of this. During his set I couldn't hear any scratching, vocals, or ANYTHING other than pure bass. And it was the only time I've felt enough bass through my system that it made me feel sick. Fun for some people but in my opinion that's not how music should sound.
-All the other set I saw at this years Sham were awesome. They were just as good as I was expecting and with the people, atmosphere, music and good times, over all I honestly would have to say it was the best music festival I have ever attended.
Thanks Shambhala for the great experience!

The Librarian is actually a woman. And I agree, that set was incredible.
