Australia's own PhaseOne is very quickly being recognized as one of the best Bass producers out there. From doing a few gigs inter-state to releasing his EP under one of the most well known Bass record labels in the world.

Ladies and Gents... PhaseOne's new EP and Interview.
1. Firstly tell us about your music journey, how long ago did you start DJing and producing and how did you get to where you are now?
I've been doing music all my life growing up playing piano & guitar, I got into production when I was about 14 when I would record and produce local bands/artists & my own various projects. I then went on to study Audio Engineering after school and played guitar in many bands. I found my love for electronic music only a few years ago (roughly 2010) when I heard Dubstep for the first time, and Immediately was interested in it from a production point of view. I got Ableton and started messing around. I then started my PhaseOne project and taught myself to DJ. Started getting some local gigs then started getting international support slots and also started doing headline shows at venues around the country. But I was always more interested in the production side of things, and really pushed my music to the global market using social media having my songs featured on some of the biggest music blogs and youtube channels.
2. What's the story with your "Touching the Stars EP." How long did it take you from start to finish and how did you get hooked up with Datsik's Firepower Records?
Touching The Stars EP was a lengthy process, I started the first tune (Burdens) in November 2013 and spent the first half of 2014 writing the rest of the tracks, but was overly picky with them, and were all changed and updated multiple times. It was originally only going to be a 3 track EP (minus Six Feet Under), I shopped it round to a whole bunch of well known labels in August, Firepower came back saying they loved it but would want a 4th track to round out the EP, which luckily I was in the final stages of finishing Six Feet Under, we then signed the deal in October setting a release date for November 11 2014.
3. What DAW and VST's are you using to make you're tunes?
DAW = Ableton 9. VST's I use frequently include NI Massive, FM8, Sylenth, Nexus, Waves Plugins, Camelphat, Ozone5 as well as all the ableton in-built plugins.
4. Who are your 3 biggest inspirations as artists?
Xilent, Au5 & Koven purely because they have such musicality to their sounds and I love the atmospherical and melodic vibes to their tunes, which I'm sure if you listen to my music, you'll hear a similar sort of spacey-ness.
5. Top 3 best gigs you've played to date...
Best show to date was in Brisbane with Datsik, It was not long after I signed the Firepower deal. It was a sold out show, and Troy introduced me on stage as his new signing, was a very surreal moment and the overall vibes were amazing as it is rare (especially in 2014 and in Australia) to see 1500 kids go crazy for Dubstep. Definitely the highlight of my career in terms of performance.
Other mentionable shows include when I played with KOAN Sound in Coffs Harbour at an outdoor festival. And when I played with Netsky and his live band in Melbourne.
6. From watching you live and hearing your mixes, it seems like you're across lots of different genres of bass music. Do you have a preference between DnB or Dubstep? or do you love them both?
I do love both, I think I'm more known for my Dubstep though. In live sets I will change tempo/genre every 15-20 mins or so, even in some of my productions there are tempo changes. I get bored easily so like using a diverse range.
7. If you had do spend the rest of you're life in one aisle of a super market, which one would it be?
I have the biggest sweet tooth, so would have to be the confectionery aisle.
8. Craziest thing you've ever seen while DJing?
To be honest, nothing too crazy. I love seeing people go crazy and even start moshing to the music, but the crazy thing for me is when I see people sing along and recognize songs that I've written.
9. What was your favourite track to write on the new EP?
That's a tie between Initiate & Six Feet Under. They both came to me the quickest and were both a lot of fun to write and I felt that was really the kind of sound which I had been trying to achieve for a while now and believe they both have a uniqueness to them to your standard dubstep sound.
10. And finally... What's next for PhaseOne?
I'm in the middle of doing some EP release shows around Australia, but after that's finished the plan is to hit the studio and try to have another EP release early 2015, and try take this project international later in the year.
