Ladies and Gentlemen...........NOISIA

One of the most respected D&B crews in the world. The style of music coming out of these guys seems to change ever second. They've collaborated with the likes of KRS-ONE, Foreign Beggars, Excision and 16bit just to name a few.

So stoked I was able to get a few of my questions answered by the 3 Dutchmen themselves!
-----------------------------------------
1. Tell us a bit about the collaboration between the three of you. How does it work with production, does one of you take the lead on certain songs or is it a joint effort on each track?

We all try to start tracks and finish bits that the others have started. Sometimes two of us start a track and the third person finishes it, or the other way around.
Basically anything is possible.

2. What do you love most about the music scene in the Netherlands?

We don’t really feel part of the dutch music scene specifically.
But we have been getting more attention and bookings in our home country recently,
so they’re starting to embrace the noisia sound a bit more.

3. What has been the most memorable gig you've ever played?

Probably NYE in Perth Australia 2007/2008. We had the 11pm - midnight slot and
did a “live” set with the three of us. We weren’t particularly happy about the set,
but the experience was awesome, since we usually never perform with the three of us.

4. We have to ask about the video for Exodus...possibly the most amazing short film we've ever seen on a music video. How did it come about?

A couple of years ago we were sent a video a German guy called Alexander Lehmann
did for a track we did called Concussion. The video wasn’t as good as the one for Exodus, but we saw his talent and asked him if he’d want to do a video for this new exciting track we did (Exodus) for which we already had a vision of an underwater world and a futuristic city being invaded and destroyed by some kind of robot. Obviously this took a year or three him needing to do all the work by himself, apart from the help he got from one of us (Nik). It worked out pretty well in the end ;)

5. Noisia has such distinct drumming patterns for the genre of Drum and Bass...do you see yourself further evolving this genre or even branching into something entirely new?

We’ve never done one genre only but were just lucky to be getting so much attention and recognition for our Drum and Bass work. We’ll keep on making the music we love
whether it’ll be Drum and Bass or something else..

6. Tell us about your software/plug-ins...how can we bedroom producers achieve those grimy baselines?

Most of our sound design is based on listening and adjusting. There are no specific plug-in chains that will make any basic sound come out sounding great.

7. This question is for each of you individually: Which group, dead or alive, would you most like to hear live?

Martijn: Michael Jackson/ Jackson 5
Nik: Jeff Buckley
Thijs: Nina Simone

8. Sum up your sound in three words.

Big, controlled and nasty.

9. What are your top 5 bangers to play?

Noisia ft Giovanca - My World
Noisia - Stigma
Sub Focus - Let the Story Begin
Xample & Lomax - Link to the Past
Noisia ft Foreign Beggars - Shellshock

10. What can we expect next from Noisia?

Hopefully we’ll be able to write our next artist album a bit quicker than the previous one and hopefully it’ll contain a lot of exciting fresh music.
