It’s our last Soiree for 2016 and It’s been one hell of a year for Distortion (with amazing support from The TakeOver Crew, brothers from another mother). Adding some massive shows to its repertoire including none other than Datsik, Gentlemens Club, Bommer, Jphelpz, Dirtyphonics, Terravita, Code:Pandorum and Squnto to the long list of dons who’ve performed to our amazingly family over the years!

So without further delay we’re ecstatic to announce none other than Dodge & Fuski, Twine and Truth to fulfil your dubstep needs until 2017.

Dodge & Fuski: One could argue that the co-founder of Disciple Recordings is one of the hottest acts going around at the moment, and the list of acts signing to this truly amazing label (Astronaut/Barely Alive/Dodge & Fuski/Dubloadz/Fox Stevenson/Virtual Riot) shows testament to his work ethic as an artist and label don! Aside from the fire that is his production Rob Talbott is one serious beast when it comes to performance and his skills on the decks.

Truth: There really isn’t much these boys haven’t accomplished in their career, from sets at Shamballa and Outlook Festival to multiple releases on Datsik’s label Firepower to the always amazing Truth Chronicles on Soundcloud (for those who like some dark chilled beats). From a very personal view Truth represent our roots and are an amazing ambassador for the diversity within our genre

Twine: The relative new guy on the block that has very nearly had a release on every major label since he exploded on the scene a short 2 years ago! His most recent colab with Dr Ozi was straight fire and with ongoing praise from every heavyweight in the industry the sky really is the limit.

On a side note our ongoing quest to one day book Timmy Trumpet and Shannon Knoll continues but unfortunately we were unsuccessful yet again.....…..

- RESONANT EVIL -

Beware the ides of October, something evil is lurking in the basement of Sydney's Central!

Resonant Evil is Sydney's newest underground party paying homage to the darker side of Dubstep and Drum 'n' Bass, just in time for halloween.

Join us on this free night featuring a lineup of local DJs carefully selected for their ability to induce screwfaces, audible panic and
gut-wrenching dance floor moves at the drop of a beat. These DJs have been told to throw down hard and we'll be seeing a lot of passion behind the decks!

In addition and complimentary to the Dubstep sound we are also featuring it's Drum 'n' Bass cousin, JumpUp which has already taken a number of European generations hostage
with it's raw, bass-heavy and rebelious rhythms.

Safe to say it is going to be a night of free, ear-inflicting damage and I hope you will come along and support the local scene by having a beer with us!

MIX UP!

This week we have two Aussie's in the house!.. actually three if you include both members of BVSIK.

First up, former Sydney Drum and Bass/Glitch Hop mastermind producer Transforma. 

And secondly, Dubstep specialists, taking over the Sydney bass scene BVSIK

For this week's mix up we have Goreway, one of Sydney's heavy hitting dubstep DJ's.

- AN INTERVIEW WITH DATSIK -

I managed to get an interview with one of todays biggest bass producers!

He's been on the top of the charts for a few years now and hasn't stopped touring the world to back up all his massive hits.

Q.  Tell us how crazy it is for you to look back on your journey through music. From the start of your production days, to becoming a record label owner and one of the most established bass producers in the world. How does it all make you feel?

A.  It's definitely a trip to see how far this music thing for me has come.. I remember working in my bedroom on old school hiphop beats having fun when I was a youngster, thinking how amazing it would be to just do that for the rest of my life. That feeling hasn't changed, but now its bigger and badder then its ever been and now I have access to all the toys I could have only dreamed of as a kid!
 
Q.  This time round you're doing more club shows rather than festivals. Is this something you chose specifically or is it just the way the tour turned out?

A.  It always just kind of pans out based on whatever is happening in Australia at the time. I've done StereoSonic twice and it was completely amazing both times, but there's something about an intimate club show that the festivals can't really offer. I'm so stoked to reconnect and party with all the peeps that listen to my music down under and throw down some fresh dubplates for all the heads, its been a minute!
 
Q.  From previous tours around Australia/NZ, is there a specific gig that you are looking forward to the most?

A.  Honestly each city has its own thing going. I love how Perth are DnB die hards, I love that Sydney always ends up being the biggest show. It gets me stoked how many people have come out in the past in Sydney, and how well roundedness and accepting you guys are! It's refreshing and very pleasant as a DJ to be able to play what I want to the fullest and to have such an open and educated crowd.
 
Q.  If you could have ANY set up(equipment wise) that you wanted for your live performances, what would you have?

A.  I pretty much have everything I want already up there. I keep it simple with my setup but make it go a long way, getting rid of the things I dont need and adding things I could use. There's something to be said about keeping it not too complicated as it can get distracting from the reason I'm actually there, which is to have a good time and throw down some big tracks! That being said I go pretty nuts on the controllers that I use.. I use a Launch Pad and Launch Control out of Ableton and have remapped the DJM900 to my own effects. When I perform i almost always have 3-4 faders up on the mixer for every mix that I do.. For example, I could be double dropping 2 tracks while playing a vocal on the third and chopping up a sweep on the fourth. I really like to experiment with this kind of stuff when I'm up there doing my thing!

Q.  Now for the same question we ask every artist,  What program and plug-ins are you using to write your tunes? 

A.  Haha, loaded question but ill keep it as brief as i can. I use Ableton, and almost all UAD (Universal Audio) plug ins. They require a separate processor to run as it's all emulation of hardware, but they sound SO AMAZING. I also use a lot of Fabfilter Saturn to even out baselines, bringing up the highs and turning down the lows a bit to make them sound more balanced. Massive and Serum are my favorite synths to make baselines.
 
Q.  If tomorrow was your last day to live, What would your last meal be? (you can have anything you can imagine)

A.  Cecil's perogies out of Kelowna BC. That shit is SO BOMB and its gotta be the number one thing I miss from Canada now that I live in Los Angeles.
 
Q. most memorable show you've played to date...

A.  Shambhala out of BC every year changes the game for me and gives me a chance to reset for the year being able to see all my close home town friends. That festival is perfect for me.

 Q . If you could see any artist, dead or alive, who would it be?

A.  I really want to see Billy Joel in concert haha, I've been listening to a lot of his shit lately late night .. he's a don!

 Q.  Any finally... What's next for Datsik?

A.  New EP should be dropping very soon which I'm ecstatic about! I'm gonna play all the new tracks off of it on this tour. See you crazy bastards soon and much love! 

- LOST IN THE SAUCE -

Dubloadz delivered us the "Lost In The Sauce EP" at the tail end of 2015. The EP has recently been getting a lot of attention and play time around the Dubstep scene. 

In our opinion its a massive sounding EP with very signature sound.

We are really looking forward to catching Dubloadz at Chinese Laundry(Sydney) on the 22nd of Jan.

BASE is a Dubstep night in Sydney hosting some of the biggest names in the international game of Bass Music. 

Next weekend(4th April) Doctor Werewolf and Hydrualix will be headlining the night.

  

 

 Following it a couple weeks after(18th April). Base has Mantis hailing from Atlanta, GA.

Head down to the HiFi in Sydney this Thursday Dec 5th to see NOISIA and FOREIGN BEGGARS live. Joining them will be Trap king UZ and Owsla's local producer Nick Thayer!

There's a lot of bass talent coming out of Sydney, Aus at the moment. 

Here's three artist that are definitely worth Checking out.

First up - Tom Piper. 
This guy has been producing for a while now and has a pretty huge portfolio behind him(check out his facebook). He has recently been writing Bass Music under the name "The Haters." But here's something different he did with another Aussie producer called Blaze Tripp

Second - AutoclaWs. 
This guy has has been DJing the Australian circuit for a few years and recently become a respected up and coming producer. - THE BASS BIZARRE -

The Bass Bizarre comes to Sydney!

Bass Bizarre is the combination of two musicians who have proved their mind blowing talent on dance floors all around the world. 

DJ Q-Bert is arguably the best scratch DJ in the world, having won the world DMCs so many times he was actually asked not to compete anymore in order to give the other guys a chance. He has his own scratch school, designed his very own combined turntable/mixer and has his own series of scratch records that most young scratch DJs use as their starting point. Q-bert has been globally respected for well over 15 years--but don't take my word for it, get down to one of these shows and see for yourself!

Reeps One has been in the game for quite a while but just last year absolutely blew up with his Dubstep Beatbox youtube sensation. Since then his beatbox career has taken a massive jump forward and he is now in the planning of some massive worldwide projects with artists like Q-bert, Skism, Roksonix and many more. 

Together these two artists have created "Bass Bizarre." They will be combining Qbert's scratching and Reeps One's beat-boxing to reach a new level of bass music. They will also be dropping a debut album shortly. Currently they are on a tour to hit up Birmingham, Manchester, London, Perth, Hobart, Manukau City, South Yarra, Sydney, and Melbourne.
